She Runs Like a Deer

She Runs Like a Deer

It wasn’t long before we realized we really needed a compact tractor. At first we thought we would eventually need something more than a riding mower to cut the grass on our vast lawn and to clear the snow from the long winding driveway up the hill. However, as the demolition of the house progressed and building began, the importance of a backhoe, loader, and forklifts became very clear, so we set off on a search for the best machine to fit our needs. We talked to friends and relatives who farm and work on machinery. We visited area implement dealers. We scoured the internet. We checked Craigslist and watched endless YouTubes. In the end, we discovered that used compact tractors are not that much less expensive than new ones, and they do not include the extensive warranties. So, welcomed a new family member. At first Sue was a little concerned: “Uh-oh. I’m afraid I’m no longer Kevin’s best gal. She’s young, she’s beautiful, and she meets his needs. Worst of all, she runs like a deer. I’ll never be able to compete with that!” But eventually she realized that she, too, enjoys the new toy, especially riding it down to get the mail.

Kevin, meanwhile, has found uses for all the attachments, including (but not limited to) hauling debris, maneuvering building materials, hoisting materials and supplies up to the second story, breaking up the cement behind the house (a first step in remedying the interior water problems), and carrying tree branches and wood scraps to the bonfire pile. Creative use of that machine has allowed him to accomplish things alone (with a little help from Sue) that usually take a team of men.

Sue’s turn….

Oh nooooo!
