Demo, Demo, Demo

Demolition: The Long Haul

It seemed like it would never end. Day after day we got up at 5:30 a.m., had coffee and prayer time, then headed over to the work site. We worked hard until 6:00 or 7:00 p.m., then went back to Sue’s mom’s house, showered, ate dinner, went to bed, and got up and did it all over again, six days a week. We tore out cabinetry, appliances, ceiling, drywall, insulation (oh the endless insulation!), fixtures,  flooring, walls, electrical, and plumbing–filling dumpster after dumpster (11 to date), and yet it continued. When will we get to the building part? Along the way—as wonky substructure was revealed–we had to take some extra time to be sure the building was shored up properly.  It was a long “getting ready” process. Each day, as more and more of the “old” was removed, the place started to smell a little better—or a little less bad anyway.

Here are a few videos to give you a sampling of what went on.

  1. Here we are tearing out a closet sometime during the first week of demo.

And here is Kevin tearing out the rest of that room the next day. He’s pretty speedy.

Next, for your viewing pleasure, sort of an overview of the demo going on all over the house. This was in April.

And did I mention how much fun we had getting rid of all the rodent-infested insulation?

    1. Okay, maybe he’s not THIS fast, but trust me, he’s pretty fast. Not only that, but he finds ways to accomplish single-handedly things it would normally take a team of men to accomplish. More to come….
